The AM Lodge has an exciting vacancy of a Head Guide. The position is responsible for providing leadership and efficiency to AM Lodge’s safari department as a service line. It will also provide and conduct guided, uniquely personalized, and enjoyable safari experiences to AM Lodge guests.

• Must establish the guest’s profile, be it through the information provided before the guest’s arrival or through personal contact with the guest or a guest’s acquaintance.
• Welcome guests and introduce the safari game drive service etc.
• Conduct marketing by the word of mouth to bring more business in the company.
• Guide guests during game drives, providing an exceptional wildlife educational experience
• Effectively manage the game drive function; scheduling, resource allocation, game count and capturing, game drive requirements, etc. to ensure a smooth and convenient guest experience.
• Developing new and innovative ways to enhance guest experience.
• Conduct inspections to ensure safari vehicle safety, preventive maintenance and other standards are consistently met for a smooth guest game experience.
• Conduct bush walks (trailing)
• Monitor biodiversity within the reserve
• Ensure that firearm procedures are in line with statutory requirements
• Monthly submissions of Rangers Budget and expenses
• Compile monthly reports
• Send images to Digital marketing for on a weekly basis for our social media pages.
• Drive service standards within the department so that all customers are treated to the very best service from the moment they arrive at the guest house to when they leave.
• Effectively manage a team of highly qualified Rangers and Trackers .
• Ensure accurate and timeous submission of all required reports.

Required Qualifications
• Must have Grade 12
• First Aid level 1,2 &3
• FGASA professional membership, level 3
• DEAT registered
• THETA registered
• Bird Guide certificate
• Wilderness First Aid
• Driver’s license with PDP
• Endangered animal research
• Trail guide Certificate
• Cyber tracking Certificate
• Advance riffle handling qualification
• Professional Hunting
• Trails Guide Qualification.
• Basic computer knowledge.

Required Experience

At least 6 years’ experience in a big five reserve and 5-star lodge • Hands on approach towards the guest experience/strong customer service background • General knowledge of legal implications of being a field guide.
• Computer Skills in Microsoft Word and Excel • Knowledge of health and safety regulations • Off-road driving 4×4 vehicles. • Knowledge of Semper Reservations system • Excellent organization and planning skills for allocation of rangers to guests behaviors / skills. • Excellent command of English, spoken and written.
