The AM Lodge has an exciting vacancy for a Tracker. This position entails tracking animals for the guests during game drive and making sure that the guests are looked after. Tracker plays a crucial role in guiding safari tours and enhancing guests’ wildlife viewing experiences in an outmost professional manner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Helping with the pick-ups when the Guide is busy
- Carrying the guest’s luggage during arrivals and departure.
- Taking guests from and to their rooms during meals and after safari.
- Carrying water and first aid for the guests during bush walks.
- Cleaning the vehicle, preparing sundowner snacks and making sure the vehicle has blankets and ponchos before game drive times.
- Make sure the all-vehicle tires with spare wheel are inflated.
- Tracking animals during game drive and being knowledgeable in tracking the where about of animals to attract guests
- Performing guiding/tracking duties with responsibility and integrity
- Always maintaining the highest possible standard of safety and ensuring that Emergency Procedures are in place and effective.
- Maintaining effective communication within the department and camps
- Ensuring that ongoing responsible environmental management is carried out
- Maintaining relationships with landowners and conservancy/parks
- Ensuring the safety, comfort and enjoyment of all participants and accepting responsibility for conduct of any person in your care
- Helping with additional ad-hoc duties, as assigned by management.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12
- A valid driver’s license and a Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
- A first aid certificate
- Minimum FGASA Level 2 and a full Trails Guide qualification
- THETA/DEAT registration
- An Advanced Rifle Handling certificate
- Knowledge of astronomy/night skies would be a definite advantage
- At least 3 years of experience as a tracker.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance
- Extensive knowledge of all biotic and abiotic components of an ecosystem
- Excellent communication standards, orientation skills, interpretative ability and guest relations
- An inherent passion for nature, the bush environment, wildlife and conservation; as well as knowledge-sharing in this regard.
